Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and LaVerne Cernan, youngest brother Timothy Cernan, and grandson Anthony Hendrix.
He is survived by his wife Patricia, daughters and sons-in-law, Cheri (Paul) Nadolni, Terri Hendrix, Pamela (Donald) Sabell, and Michele (Christopher) Zabala, grandchildren Denise Dupree, Nicole Hendrix, Lindsey (Aaron) O’Donnell, Michael Hendrix, Thomas Hendrix, Samantha Sabell, Amanda Sabell, Johnathan Hendrix, Jessica Sabell, Mia Zabala, Matthew Hendrix, great-grandchildren Destiny Dupree and Noah Nicholson, as well as brother Gary (Donna) Cernan, sister Patricia Cernan, sister-in-law Faye Cernan and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Born on August 23, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio, Dennis was the oldest of 4 children. He graduated from West Tech High School and attended Capital University for two years before meeting and marrying the love of his life Patricia Ann Holt in 1964.
In 1972, he moved his family to Detroit, where he worked at Standard Products Corporation/Cooper-Standard for 40 years. He raised his family there and always tried to make his four daughters feel important, supported and loved. He happily filled the role of “Boompa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In retirement, he enjoyed volunteering as President of the Redford Eagles (Rangers) football program, church on Sundays, and regular visits with longtime friends in Ohio.
People, young and old, gravitated toward his welcoming presence. His kind and forgiving nature made him well-liked and respected by those fortunate enough to get to know him. He will long be remembered as a wise and funny man who loved to talk to people and share stories of the past.
Dennis will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Denny was a wonderful, kind hearted soul who took time to “show me the ropes” by engaging me with team players and offering guidance when I was a new hire at Standard Products. I knew him briefly but during that time he proved to be a model and soft spoken leader. He always spoke about his family with love. I know he will be missed. God bless you. Maria Jarrous
